Militancy :: Russian Female Snipers (WWII)

In the face of adversity, they rose to the challenge of defending their country and themselves from the Nazis during WWII. Russian women volunteered to serve their country and proved to be great snipers and warriors. Many were awarded stars for their bravery and accomplishments. They have a lot to be proud of. They contributed greatly to the survival of their country's survival. We are proud of them for proving to the world the toughness and greatness of women. We are capacity of protecting ourselves and our country. We just have to believe in our abilities.


Lidiya Gudovantseva, Russian Female Sniper in WWII

During WWII, Russian women played a significant role in fighting the German Nazis and protecting their country and people. Lidiya Gudovantseva, Red Army Sniper, volunteered for duty when she was 18. Her stories reveal Russian women's bravery and resilience in the face of war. She talks about her fears, her first shot and her wounds. She recalls the incident when she first saw a German whistling and walking towards her. She killed him. She felt sorry for him because he was a human being. Her partner, Sasha, fired and killed another German soldier.

After Gudovantseva was wounded on the chin by a German soldier hiding in a tree, she was awarded the Lenin Order Star for her 76 kills. Though injured, she fired back at her sniper and killed him. Other female snipers have also contributed greatly to the war. The most celebrated female sniper killed 309 Nazis, including 36 snipers. That's an incredible record.

Soviet Female Aces of the Great Patriotic War

Photographs of Russian women in uniform attest to their involvement in WWII as fighter pilots. Russian war posters show women warriors as being brave and heroic. Lilya Litvak, the White Lily of Stalingrad, is featured in this tribute. She served in the all-woman 586th IAP. She died in combat when she was 22 years old.

Her accomplishments were great: completed 168 missions and shot down 12 planes. In honor of her heroic acts for her country, a marble monument, with 12 gold stars, one for each plane she shot down, had been erected in her memory in Krasy Luch, in the Donetsk region. The patriotism of the female fighter pilots is evoked by "The Song of the Partisans" by the Red Army Choir in the video.
