The Winter Olympics 2010 celebrated its closing a few days ago in Vancouver, Canada. Designer Steven Heller of the New York Times reminds us that aside from the memorable events and athletes who have set new records and left their mark in history, well-designed pictograms of the Olympics through the ages, also deserve recognition. He traces the evolution of these deceptive simple pictograms and rates their success at communicating their message. He celebrates the olympians in design. Well done.
