Art :: Collaborative
When artists come together, something magical happens. They create, create, create. Their collaborative effort reveal their ability to work towards a common vision. Their different visions and personalities still come through. The projects don't always go smoothly. The struggles, the compromises, the process that create tension and contribute the meaning of the work.
Room
Watch a group of artists transform a room into their artistic vision. With Noiz-Davi providing artistic direction, and Daisuke Yamamoto and D.H. Rosen on 2D art, they collaborated on using a room as their canvas. Plants, trees and flowers grew on the walls and ceiling. It's quite wonderful to see. They brought nature inside. They help us see what they see.
Breast Cancer Art Project by Toby Jones
After Toby Jones' mother died of breast cancer, he turned to art for ways of dealing with his loss. He started working making casts of women's breast to create the indestructible breasts. He met a lot of cancer survivors through the process. What comes out of this process is some amazing work. He discovers his own strength through art.
The Little Girl Giant
One morning, May 7, 2006, a little girl woke up, got a shower from the Sultans elephant, got dressed in a olive dress with big white buttons and came alive. She is gigantic. She is beautiful in her short black hair, big eyes, long eyelashes, and big red shoes. With the help of many men pulling her strings, she wanders off into the park to play. She stretches out her long arms, licks a popsicle, and rocks little girls back and forth on her arm. She is filled with curiosity. She is life. The children interacted with her as though she were alive and that's magical.
Many people gather at the Horseguards Parade in London to watch her. At the end she sits down on a big lounge chair, resting her eyes and body. With a female singing and music playing she walks and parades herself around, proudly. It is wonder to watch. She is the embodiment of innocence, curiosity and play.
One Week of Artworks
It is collaboration at its best. This video depicts the process of an artwork changing, evolving as different Japanese artists work on the same piece, adding to it, taking away from it. It started with high contrast images of fish, clouds, rain, then blackness takes over and it rains. A horse passes through. Life grows, plants become more leafy with time. White adds contrast and highlight to a dark scene. Then white paint washes over the surfaces and lotus blossoms into an intricate, complicate design. The process is organic and alive. Great work. It's nice to see artists working together to create something beautiful.
